What is a standard packaging box and what is it used for?
A standard box is a folding carton printed in full colour on art card with gloss or matte lamination — the everyday workhorse of product packaging, used for skincare, supplements, food, cosmetics and e-commerce. The most common mistake buyers make is choosing paper that is too thin to save cost, which leads to boxes crushing in transit. For most products we recommend 310-350gsm so the box arrives looking the way it left.
What is foil card (metalized) packaging and when should I use it?
Foil card uses a metalized board with a reflective silver or gold surface, printed with CMYK on top. Use it when your product competes on shelf appeal, such as skincare, perfume, premium supplements, festive hampers. The common misconception in the market is that a full metallic look requires expensive full-surface hot foil stamping. It does not. Our metalized board process delivers the same premium effect far more cheaply, which makes it the most cost-effective route to a luxury shelf presence.
What makes premium packaging 'premium', and is it worth the cost?
Premium packaging adds tactile and visual finishing: spot UV for glossy raised areas, hot foil stamping, embossing for raised texture, debossing for pressed-in texture, and soft-touch lamination for a velvety feel. These details signal quality before the box is even opened. Our honest cost advice: do not premium-finish the entire box. Apply spot UV or foil to your logo and key elements only — you capture most of the perceived value at a fraction of the cost.
What paper bag options exist and which is right for me?
Paper bags come in art paper (smooth and highly printable), kraft (natural, eco-leaning look) and ivory board (thick and premium). Handles can be PP rope, cotton rope, satin ribbon or die-cut. The recurring problem we see is a bag specified too flimsy for the product weight, so handles tear on the first outing. We match paper weight to your product — a boutique clothing bag and a heavy hamper bag need very different specs. Tell us what goes inside and we spec it properly.
What types of product labels and stickers can you print?
Product labels, bottle labels, seal stickers and promotional decals in any shape via custom die-cut, on art paper, mirrorkote, vinyl (waterproof), kraft or transparent material. The most common mistake is using plain paper labels on products exposed to moisture, such as cosmetics, food and drinks where they smudge and peel. For those we recommend vinyl or laminated labels. Labels start from just 100 sheets, making them the fastest and lowest-commitment way to brand a product.
What is a hologram label and do I actually need one?
A hologram label is a security and branding feature that creates a distinctive reflective appearance on packaging. It can help customers identify genuine products and can make packaging more difficult to reproduce. Hologram labels are commonly used for cosmetics, supplements, electronics and other products where product identification and brand protection are important.
What is a QR code label and how does it help my business?
A QR code label allows customers to scan the packaging with a smartphone to access product information, authenticity information, promotions, websites or loyalty programmes. QR codes can help connect physical packaging with digital content and provide customers with additional information about a product or brand. How do I choose the right box size for my product?
Measure your product’s length, width and height, then add a few millimetres of clearance so it seats without forcing. If the product needs protection, factor in an insert or thicker card. Do not eyeball it — a box 3mm too small will not close, and one too large lets the product rattle and look cheap. Send us your product dimensions, or the product itself, and we will spec the exact box free before you order.
Why do my printed box colours look different from my screen design?
Screens display RGB colour made of light, while printing uses CMYK made of ink — they are different systems, so bright screen colours often print slightly darker. This is the single most common surprise for first-time buyers. The fix is to design in CMYK, specify Pantone codes for critical brand colours, and always approve a proof. Our pre-press team flags colour risks before printing; cheaper printers skip this step entirely, which is why buyers get “wrong colour” shocks.
What is 'bleed' and why does my artwork need it?
Bleed is extra artwork, usually 3mm, extended past the cut line so that if the cut shifts slightly there is no white edge. Artwork submitted without bleed is the number one reason files get rejected or boxes come out with white slivers along the edge. If that sounds technical, do not worry — our system checks for bleed automatically and our team fixes it with you before printing. You will never lose a production run to a file error on our watch.

Sample availability depends on the packaging type, material, printing and finishing requirements.
